For Incoming Freshman with musical experience
If you are an incoming freshman who has experience playing a band instrument already, please fill out the form
below and submit it as soon as possible to assure proper class placement. You will be contacted for a short audition
so that
we can make sure your schedule is correct before you start in September. If you do not audition over the
summer and wait until you enter, you can still get a schedule change but it will be a lengthy process.
Any student with experience playing will be asked to play any scales they may know, bring a selection of music that
they have played before to perform for the Director and perhaps a very short sight reading selection.

Are you thinking about possibly being a MUSIC MAJOR at Lane? If so, you would not have to take
Drafting and
would NOT have a 9th period your Freshman Year. You would take one year of Music
Theory and one year of Music Harmony over your 4 years instead.

Instrument Rental Responsibility & Fees.
Students can rent instruments from the Lane Band Program for a fee of only $50.00 per year which includes taking the
instrument home over the summer providing the student is returning to the band program the following year. While you are more
then welcome to rent an instrument outside of Lane Tech, the average outside cost can run between $25.00 - $75.00 per month
depending on the instrument. Students are responsible for the safety & care of the instrument.
Any damage to an instrument or
case due to negligence will be  the responsibility of the student.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact
Mr. O'Brien from our contact page.

Instrument Care
From time to time we will send instruments out for general maintenance which we will cover the cost of. Students are asked to
help keep instruments in good working order by following a few simple care tips.
* Never let anyone else (including adults) play with your instrument.
* When you are done playing your instrument, use a soft thin cotton rag and wipe your instrument down. This cuts back on
the acid from sweat tarnishing the finish on the instrument.
* If you play a clarinet, sax,  flute or oboe, run your swab through your instrument to absorb the moisture.
* Keep your valves oiled and tuning slides greased (we will show you how)
NEVER USE REGULAR OIL ON A
MUSICAL INSTRUMENT, THERE ARE SPECIAL OILS WE USE AND WILL PROVIDE YOU WITH. ANY COSTS
DUE TO DAMAGE CAUSED BY USING REGULAR OILS ON AN INSTRUMENT WILL BE PASSED ONTO THE
STUDENT.
*
Do not lean or lay your instrument anywhere or in anyway in which the instrument can fall.  All musical instruments are
fragile and need to be taken care of.
* Never leave your instrument outside in the open where someone can steal it, remember, this is your responsibility.
